Visit of Standard 4 80078 - September 2004

September 2004 saw a Standard 4 tank return to the line for the first time since the class were withdrawn back in the 1960s. 80078, owned by Southern Locomotives Ltd and based on the Swanage Railway, visited the Spa Valley for three weeks and starred in our Mixed Traction Gala in that period.

Here are some pictures of it during that time. The locomotive arrived on the 15th September and underwent a gauging trial the following day. Most of the pictures are of this at different locations along the line, including Birchden, the railway's boundary where it meets the national network.
