Arrival of LB&SCR Terrier 'Sutton' - April 2004

Ex LB&SCR Terrier 'Sutton' arrived at the Spa Valley Railway on the 4th April 2004 from the Kent and East Sussex Railway where it had spent the last 40 years in preservation. The locomotive which has been out of service now for 10 years will be stripped down for assessment and overhaul in the workshops at Tunbridge Wells West. The photos below show the arrival of the engine on the evening of 4th April.

The London Borough of Sutton have trusted the engine in the hands of the Spa Valley Railway following the engineering expertise demonstrated by the railway in the recent overhaul of the LMS Jinty 47493.

A special day was organised shortly after the arrival of 'Sutton' for the members of both borough councils to attend, so that the engine could be formally welcomed to the railway. This was done through the handover of one of Sutton's nameplates from the Mayor of Sutton, Robert Landeryou to the Mayor of Tunbridge Wells, David Wakefield.
