Buffet-Bar Car 'Kate'

Converted from a former MK1 SK, this coach has been restored to an open layout with a bar/buffet at one end. Purchased by members from the Birmingham Railway Museum in 1994, conversion to a buffet began in 1997. Completely stripped down and gutted inside, the coach has been restored to a high standard, winning the Heritage Railway Association (HRA) 'Best Coach' award for the year 2000/2001. It can be seen in the service train on most running days, and is open on most Sundays, Bank Holidays and special events, where various refreshments such as hot and cold drinks, light snacks, cream teas and a licensed bar are available for purchase whilst you watch the Kent and Sussex countryside go past the window.

In early 2005, 'Kate' received a repaint into all over Malachite Green to match the BSO brake coach.
