Engine Specification - 8 Cylinder Gardener 8L3, producing 204 HP with electric
start.
Built in 1947, it was delivered new to Lever Brothers Port Sunlight Works, in
1948. Princess Margaret was the second of two locomotives ordered late in 1945.
"Princess Elizabeth" was the first to arrive and went with company
policy of being named after members of the Royal Family. Moving from Port
Sunlight to Erith Oil Works in 1968, it was donated to the North Downs Steam
Railway in 1985. Restored to working order, it returned to it's home ground for
the Port Sunlight Centenary Celebrations in 1988, where it was the oldest
surviving member of the type. Moved to the Spa Valley Railway in 1996, as part
of a merger between the North Downs Railway and the Spa Valley, it used for yard
shunting.
