Special Events 2008

The railway hosts a range of special events throughout the year, which include A Day Out with Thomas and our very popular Santa Specials in December. 

The special event days are when the railway hosts some special attractions to for visitors to experience. Each year, various gala events are normally held where visitors can experience all types of traction running on the line, and occasionally some surprise visiting engines. 

All the events are often very popular because they offer good value for money and an exciting time is had by all! For more details on each event, please scroll down the page.

• Easter Specials - Sun 23rd March & Mon 24th March
  Easter Bunny hunt, plus Easter eggs for visiting children
  

• Members/Volunteers Weekend - 29th & 30th March, 13th & 14th September
  Come and look behind the scenes and see how you could help run your local railway. Free travel for those joining on the day
  

• Spring Diesel Day - Sat 26th April & Sun 27th April & Autumn Diesel Event - Sat 20th & Sun 21st October
  Our fleet of heritage diesels take over for these events in the spring and autumn (no steam on these days)
  

• Morris Day - Sat 17th May
  Morris dancers and Morris cars feature in this event
  

• Spring Gala - Sat 17th & Sun 18th May
  Our annual steam based gala. All available locomotives in steam and perhaps a visitor
  

• Brake Van Special - Sat 14th June, Sat 12th July & Sat 9th August
  Experience a steam hauled trip on a traditional open veranda brake van as used originally on goods trains. Late afternoon/early evening trip with strictly limited spaces (Advanced booking recommended)
  

• Fathers Day - Sun 15th June
  Accompanied dads travel for £1. Also chance for Dad to drive a diesel in the yard
  

• Wings, Wheels & Steam (Groombridge Place event) - Sun 20th July
  Groombridge Place hosts this event featuring historic road transport, plus a flying display. Special connecting train service, with vintage bus connections at Groombridge.
  

• Summer Diesel Gala - Fri 1st to Sun 3rd August
  Our annual heritage diesel 3 day extravaganza, with special intensive service (No steam on these days)
  

• Teddy Bears Picnic - Sat 16th & Sun 17th August
  Take teddy out for the day! All children who bring a teddy travel for £1 (And teddy goes free!)
  

• 10th Anniversary of High Rocks Station Opening - Sun 26th & Mon 27th August
  Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Spa Valley Railway restoring train services to High Rocks
  

• Mainline Gala Weekend - Sat 15th & Sun 16th September
  An event featuring our larger mainline steam and diesels plus perhaps a visiting locomotive
  

• End of Season Sale - Sat 29th to Mon 31st December 2007 & Tues 1st January 2008
  All train fares at least 25% off in our post Christmas sale
  

Details and a booking form for "A Day Out With Thomas" and "Santa Special" events will be available from Tunbridge Wells West station, and this website at least 3 months prior to the event. Advanced booking is strongly advised for these popular events to avoid disappointment.
