Civil Engineering Consultant – WE NEED YOU!The Spa Valley Railway is actively seeking a new Civil Engineering Consultant (either a person or a company) following the retirement of the previous post holder. As the Spa Valley Railway’s Civil Engineering Consultant, you would support the railway with its ongoing management and inspection of its civil engineering structures, including bridges of varying design, culverts, drainage, embankment, retaining walls and buildings. Whilst this role is at a heritage railway, a lot of civil engineering matters are non-railway based and previous experience in this post and associated consultants in this role have come from those with a highways background and we would be open to discussing this with any prospective consultant be that an individual or a company. Whilst our bridges and embankments carry and support trains, previous persons have been able to apply transferable skills to these structures from a highways background. This role is ideal for a self-employed person with the relevant skills and qualifications, or a company with a wide range of skillsets and personal working for them. The rate of pay and travel expenses would be discussed and agreed on individual terms and the person or company formally appointed. The average time spent by the previous Civil Engineering Consultant (who ran their own business) for the Spa Valley Railway is calculated at 364 hours per year, around 1-day per week. If you believe you have the necessary company, qualifications and civil engineering experience to be the Civil Engineering Consultant or undertake some/part of the role required for the Spa Valley Railway we’d be delighted to hear from you. Please contact Jonnie Pay, General Manager with a covering letting outlining your own or company’s suitability for this role via Jonnie.Pay@spavalleyrailway.co.uk where a phone call/Teams or Zoom video or site meeting can be arranged to discuss the position further.
