August Commercial Update – 16th August 2019

Diesel Gala
The Spa Valley Railway is delighted to give you the news that the recent Diesel Gala was the most popular ever staged with 1,438 visitors attending over the event and ticket sales reaching the £30,000 mark. The Class 27 and 42 went down very well with our visitors being ably supported by the home fleet.

We are extremely grateful to the owners for allowing 27001 and D821 to visit us and also our own loco owners for ensuring D3489, 31430, 33063, 73140, 1317 and 1497 were available throughout the gala.

Overall the event turned over a profit of over £10,000 after all costs, including loco hire fees and transport. The visit of the 'Warship' is another locomotive courtesy of the Diesel Traction Group following on from Class 17 D8568 in 2019 and the Class 27 is the second time we've brought a loco all the way from Bo'ness, the first being Class 26 26038 'Tom Clift' in 2014.

The Class 27 was intially on loan until the end of August however will now be on hire until and featuring in the Beer Festival from 18th to 20th October.
