Afternoon Tea

20th September and 11th & 24th October

We're bringing Afternoon Tea back to the Spa Valley Railway!
At the Spa Valley Railway we have been operating our Afternoon Tea trains through the High Weald for many years, always popular with our passengers and sell out fast we're delighted to announce that following the period of closure during COVID-19 we are once again operating our popular Afternoon Tea trains, under different conditions to our previous trains to ensure we can maintain Social Distancing and be COVID secure.

What’s on offer?
Join the train from 14:00 at Tunbridge Wells West and at 14:30 the train will set off for Groombridge. Whilst on your journey you will enjoy Afternoon Tea on the return trip. You will return to Tunbridge Wells West for approximately 15:30. There will be a break at Groombridge for you to see the steam locomotive and access the station. The basket containing your Afternoon Tea will already be on your table along with cups, plates and hot water for you to make tea as you desire!

What has changed?

  1. To ensure we maintain Social Distancing and are COVID secure we will be using two 'Open' carriages which have an aisle down the centre. Passengers will be sat 1m+ from other passengers with protective screens being provided between the bays of seats.
  2. On train toilets and a walk-up-bar service will not be available and you will be asked to board and disembark in a certain order. Toilets will be available at Tunbridge Wells West and Groombridge along with hand sanitisation points at both stations.
  3. On-board catering staff will be wearing additional PPE, they will be wearing masks when they need to approach your bay of seats and will wear gloves when handling anything that we need to put on your table (i.e. a drink). All staff have been briefed on the need to routinely wash their hands and they will have access to our handwashing facilities in bar car 'Kate'.
  4. Eridge station and the line beyond Groombridge will be closed initially. High Rocks station is also closed.
  5. It is not possible to break your journey at Groombridge and return on a later train.
